Who we are
SepticBeacon is an independent, educational publisher for homeowners who want to understand septic systems. Our guides are published under the name SepticBeacon Editorial Team. We are not a septic contractor, engineer, inspector, or regulator, and we do not claim professional licenses or credentials we do not hold. We do not use invented authors, invented experts, or invented reviews.
How we create our guides
- Sources first. We base guides on primary and official sources where possible, such as the U.S. EPA, university extension services, and state or local health and environmental agencies, and we link to them in each guide’s sources section.
- AI-assisted research and drafting. We use AI-assisted tools to help research, structure, and draft guides. Anything presented as a fact, figure, or recommendation is meant to trace back to a cited source. Where sources disagree or the answer depends on your location, we say so instead of picking a single number.
- Cost figures are ranges. Prices we cite come from the named sources, are national planning ranges, and are not quotes. Your price depends on your soil, site, system, and local rules.
- Safety-critical topics are handled conservatively. We do not encourage homeowners to enter tanks, open sealed components, or attempt repairs that belong with licensed professionals.
What our guides are not
Our guides are general educational information. They are not professional advice, engineering design, a code interpretation, or a substitute for an on-site inspection by a qualified septic professional. Septic rules vary by state, county, and system type. Always confirm requirements with your local health department or permitting authority. See also our disclaimer.
Updates and corrections
Costs, standards, and agency guidance change. We revise guides when we find that a source has changed or that we made a mistake. If you spot an error, an outdated figure, or a broken source link, please tell us at info@septicbeacon.com and include the page address. We review factual corrections and fix confirmed errors.
Advertising and independence
SepticBeacon may display advertising. Advertising does not influence what we write or recommend, and we do not accept payment to recommend a contractor, product, or additive. If that policy ever changes, we will say so here and mark any sponsored content clearly. Our privacy policy explains how advertising and analytics technologies may be used.
